Welcome to Lu Xun Youth Literature Award (U.S. Division)

 

The Lu Xun Youth Literature Award was initiated by Mr. Zhou Haiying, the son of Mr. Lu Xun and a former member of the National People's Congress, and is managed by the Lu Xun Cultural Development Center. 


This is a leading event in China for youth literary creation, with the purpose of "respecting the native language, learning Chinese, critical thinking, and cultivating resilience."


Since 2009, the competition has been successfully held 15 times, with over 10 million participants to date. In 2021, a Hong Kong division was established for the first time. In 2025, the Lu Xun Youth Literature Award (U.S. Division) will be held for the first time overseas in 2025.

The 16th Lu Xun Youth Literature Award (U.S. Division)

Background: First time in the US

Purpose

To promote the spirit of Lu Xun's cultural legacy, strengthen cultural exchange between Chinese and American youth, foster deep integration between the two, and create a future with a global perspective.

Eligibility

Students in elementary, middle, and high school, college students, and youth under the age of 35, studying in the United States.

Competition Categories

  1.  Elementary School Chinese Group (Grade 4 and above)
  2. Elementary School English Group (Grade 4 and above)
  3. Middle School Chinese Group
  4. Middle School English Group
  5. High School Chinese Group
  6. High School English Group
  7. Youth Chinese Group (University students and youth under 35)
  8. Youth English Group (University students and youth under 35)

Essay Requirements

The essay can be written in Chinese or English,

Theme - Effort and Results

"Effort leads to results" is an inspiring theme. 


"Heaven rewards those who work hard", 


"Hard work pays off "— those who put in effort will be rewarded. 


Han Yu also reminds us: "Skills are perfected through diligence, and ruined by indulgence." Only through continuous effort can we achieve success. 


Xunzi said: "Without accumulating small steps, there is no way to reach a

thousand miles." This teaches us that even small progress, when accumulated, can achieve great goals. 


In this essay, let's share

Notes

1. The essay must focus on the above theme; the title can be self-chosen.

2. Writing Style: Essay (can include argumentative, descriptive, or narrative styles).

3. The theme must be positive and the work must be original, unpublished, and not previously printed.

Word Count Requirements

• Elementary School: 200 - 500 words

• Middle School: 500 – 800 words

• High School: 800 – 1200 words

• Youth: 1500 – 3000 words

Competition & Award Process

Deadline: July 31st, 2025

Competition Process

1. Essay collection from now until July 31, 2025.

2. Judging of entries by the review committee from August 1 to August 31, 2025.

3. Winners will be announced on September 5, 2025.

4. The awarded works will be edited and published from August 1 to October 20, 2025.

5. Award Ceremony: October 25, 2025, afternoon (Los Angeles)

Awards

1. The Lu Xun Youth Literature Award (U.S. Division) will have a Grand Prize for each category. In addition, First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize, and several Excellent Awards will be given.

2. All winners will receive a certificate of the Lu Xun Youth Literature Award (U.S. Division).

3. All winning works will be included in the Lu Xun Youth Literature Award (U.S. Division) award-winning works book.

Other Information

1. If any entries are found to be fraudulent, plagiarized, or ghostwritten, the entry will be disqualified, and any awards given will be revoked or invalidated.

2. All awards are final based on the decisions of the judging panel. The number of winners and awards may vary depending on the actual level of competition in each category. The organizing committee reserves the right to make final decisions.


3. By submitting their works, participants agree that the organizing committee and sponsors may use their works or photos of the winners for promotional activities related to the competition, including but not limited to publications, press releases, websites, and public  exhibitions, without requiring additional consent or payment.In case of any disputes, the organizing committee reserves the final decision.
